Teeth Whitening at Willeri Dental

Teeth whitening before and afterYou may have heard the expression, “a smile is your best accessory.” We believe that and that’s why we want to help all our patients achieve beautiful smiles. If you have stained or darkened teeth that leave you feeling self-conscious we would like to restore their appearance and your self-confidence!

Whether you have an upcoming big event such as a wedding or corporate function, we can help you enhance your appearance with teeth whitening.

Causes of Teeth Staining

Teeth may gradually discolour due to ageing, smoking, pigmented foods and beverages such as red wine, coffee and blueberries, and certain medications. Fortunately, whitening is a simple procedure that is accessible to most people.

We primarily use pola whitening products. There are two types of whitening that we offer at Willeri Dental:

  • Take-home Whitening: We provide you with a concentrated whitening agent and whitening trays that are customisedto fit your mouth. The whitening process takes between 14-21 days.
  • In-chair Whitening: This is our most popular whitening option, delivering instant results to our patients in one visit! The technique is fast, safe and gentle and it doesn’t harm your gums, your teeth or any previous dental work you’ve had done. In-chair whitening makes your teeth look natural.

In Office Teeth Whitening

The process brings out the natural colour of your teeth, before years of staining, age and wear and tear took their toll on your teeth’s appearance. Although some patients report some initial tooth sensitivity immediately following the procedure, this generally goes away within a day. When you visit our practice for an in-chair whitening session, we also give you a complimentary take-home kit to help you maintain your new, beautiful smile.

FAQ

How long does in-chair whitening take?
Your appointment will take about 90 minutes, making it easy to get done during your lunch break.

Is one whitening option better than the other?

Both in-chair and take-home whitening will yield excellent results but in-chair whitening will produce a slightly better outcome.

Should I get my teeth professionally cleaned before having them whitened?

Yes, we always recommend having a clean and exam done first before starting any kind of whitening treatment. That’s because decay may show up on an exam and you don’t want to have any whitening done if decay is present.

How long will my results last?

It depends on how often you consume teeth-staining foods and drinks. If you resume doing so your teeth won’t stay white for too long. You should avoid such substances for a few days after your treatment. Even if you do avoid them, the whitening effect can wear off in about 6-18 months. That’s why we recommend whitening maintenance.

Do you ever offer complimentary teeth whitening?

For patients who have had teeth whitening done at our practice previously, we will do a complimentary whitening at their six-month appointment.

Will my teeth feel sensitive after my whitening treatment?

You may experience some short-term sensitivity but it shouldn’t last longer than a day. You can take anti-inflammatories or painkillers as needed.
Should I use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth?
While it may seem like a good idea to use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth doing so will stop the whitening process from being as effective.

Are there other cosmetic treatments that you may recommend?

Yes, if you’re seeking a dramatic smile makeover, we may suggest veneers.

If my teeth are crooked can I still have them whitened?

Yes, the shape of your teeth has no bearing on the effectiveness of whitening treatment.

If I have fillings and crowns can I still have my teeth whitened?

The whitening treatment does not make existing fillings and crowns whiter. If you have existing fillings or crowns, we will be glad to discuss your options with you.

If I want to whiten my teeth before a major event when should I schedule my appointment?

For example, if you have an upcoming wedding, we recommend that you come in for whitening 2-3 months before your event.
